Avalon Packaging falls into administration

Avalon Packaging, the Wigan-based food pack specialist, has gone into administration with debts of £10m.
Dermot Power and Matthew Dunham, business restructuring partners at BDO Stoy Hayward, were appointed joint administrators on Friday (17 October).
Dermot Power, business restructuring partner at BDO Stoy Hayward, said: 'The tough economic climate has played a role in the company's current challenges but the business has strong foundations to weather the difficulties and that's why we're working to sell the business as a going concern – a move that will also protect 100 regional jobs.'
The company, which has been established for more than 25 years, has 11 thermoforming lines and its own fleet of distribution vehicles. It has a turnover of more than £16m in 2007.
In April 2007 the company was fined £50,000 after pleading guilty to 15 offences under the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 1997.
