published on 21/10/08 Sealed Air claims its new I-Pack automated tray-forming and lidding system eliminates the need for void fill material by reducing the dimensions of the pack down to the exact height of the contained items.
The protective packaging manufacturer said the three-stage process (see below) system was suitable for books, CDs and DVDs and provided a strong, tamper-evident package with an enhanced look.
The I-Pack is currently only available in the north American market.
Sealed Air said the I-Pack can reduce shipping volumes and eliminates the need for additional packaging materials.
The I-Pack fold is said to increase box strength and add product protection, while the glued pack is securely sealed and tamper-evident.
The I-Pack system can be integrated with all ERP/WMS system software and any warehouse equipment such as conveyors, printers, scales and sorters, or operated as a stand-alone module.
How the I-Pack works
• Corrugated trays of any size are formed in the tray-forming module of a packaging line and fed into the picking line
• Once filled, they are conveyed to the height adjustment module, where the tray sides are scored and folded down to the height of the packaged items
• Trays are then conveyed to the lidding module, where a lid is automatically placed and glued.
The whole system is easily installed and maintained by qualified engineers and cost effective to run.
