published on 17/11/08 Benson Group has scooped packaging's ultimate prize, after being pipped to the post last year by DS Smith Speciality Packaging. Benson Group is the UK's leading privately owned printed carton supplier, producing packaging for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
The judges were bowled over by the group's unparalleled growth over the past six years. Its turnover for 2008 is expected to reach £85m and, under the watchful eye of chief executive Mark Kerridge, Benson Group has turned losses at the start of the decade into a healthy operating profit in 2008, against a backdrop of customers keen to force prices down.
A major factor in the turnaround of the business has been its culture of investment in the best equipment, with in excess of £25m ploughed into its four sites in recent years. The company is now reaping the rewards of that investment with the higher productivity provided by newer technology.
Benson Group creates packaging for many well-known and highly demanding companies, brands and retailers. Key clients include GlaxoSmithKline, Northern Foods, Reckitt Benckiser, Greencore and leading supermarkets.
The Group's headquarters are in Bardon, Leicestershire. The company also has two sites in the North East, as well as a fourth site in Crewe.
