published on 24/12/08 Sewtec Automation’s newly launched high speed robotic case loading system has been selected by United Biscuits for the packing of its famous McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes into outer cases. The case loading system was installed by a team of Contract Engineers. The versatile Sewtec Case Loading System is able to handle packs in single, double and triple formats at up to 240 per minute into a variety of case sizes.
Launched over 60 years ago, McVitie’s Jaffa cakes are now the third biggest brand in the UK biscuit market, with over 3 million produced daily at McVitie’s factory in Manchester. With such high demand, the company needed to find a team of skilled mechanical contract engineers, to upgrade an existing line in order to cope with higher throughput and a growing number of different sized cases, including a move to retail ready versions. The contract engineers are also responsible for the maintenance of the system which can be done using either proactive or reactive maintenance with little or no downtime.
The system features the latest Sewtec LX5036 top load robot, filling four cases simultaneously, enabling the system to handle high throughput with gentle and accurate placement of the packs into cases.
