published on 22/01/09 Contract Engineers work hard to install equipment as Foster Packaging has invested more than EUR1m in equipment for a dedicated short-run plant in County Louth, Ireland.
The site, which will operate a new service called Flexible Express, will focus on the production of pouches, printed film and bags.
The plant marks a change in direction for Foster Packaging, its business is based on long-run rotogravure printing.
Managing director Joe Foster said: 'We want to create the need for short-run packaging. During a downturn companies look for new ways to market themselves and digitally printed short-run packaging is a great way to do that. We have a small team of contract engineers that are available as and when we need them and so its cost effective too'
Foster's Paul Young said that the company is already getting interest in the service from its existing customers, and that the contract engineers are a value part of the business.
The investment included an HP Indigo press ws4500, which can handle a range of substrates ranging from 12 to 350 microns.
The company has facilities in South Africa, Kenya, the US, The Dominican Republic, as well as in the UK and Ireland.
