Digital print label specialist Borble has invested £430,000 in a new Xeikon 3300 label press in addition to launching a web-to print product for labels.
Rhyl-based Borble has installed the first Xeikon 3300 in the UK, alongside its existing Xeikon 330 label press and will operate them on double-day shifts.The 3300 was installed by a team of contract engineers which were brought in by the company.
The contract engineers will also be responsible for the on site maintenance of the machine(s) on an ad hoc basis, by means of either pro active or re active maintenance with no disruption to the double-day shifts. Also by using the outsourced engineers the company saves on overheads, ie wages as the engineers are only in as and when required. The managing director of an engineering outsource firm said ‘ many companies are now actually going down the route of outsourcing their engineers, especially as many are having to look at ways to cut costs and reduce overheads, but ar the same time still need that reliability and experience that our engineers can provide.’
The company has specialised in serving customers of all sizes with variable data since it started in 2005.'A lot of labels that have variable data have traditionally been thermally overprinted, which exposes the data,' said joint managing director Barry Griffiths.
'In our case, it's part of the primary printing process.'
No plates are required so the company can quickly produce a press-proof for customers using the exact colours and stock of the final job.
The company has developed software called Valid, Variable Label Identification, that groups together label orders which are using the same substrate, cutter size and finish and finishes into a single run.
