published on 18/02/09 Benson Group has installed a second GUK folder at Medica Packaging to meet growing demand for folded leaflets in the UK. The machines were installed quickly and efficiently by a team of skilled contract engineers sourced by the Benson Group.
Crewe-based Medica has invested £250,000 in the two machines, the first of which was installed at the site last year by the contract engineers.
The company has experienced significant growth in leaflets, which has led to the need for a 30% increase in folding capacity.
Benson Group managing director Mark Kerridge said that the new GUK would significantly increase productivity without adding additional labour to the plant. The maintenance needs would be met by the team of contract engineers using either pro active or re active maintenance, the contract engineers have been brought in as part of a drive to reduce unecessary overheads, the managing director of Packserve Limited, a leading engineering outsource provider said ‘ outsourcing is the way most companies are going today, and especially in this climate it is good to have the flexibility to chose when and for how long any company needs the contract engineers on site for without worrying that you are paying for engineers on your pay roll when times are quiet’
Kerridge added that the new machines would be used to serve the major pharmaceutical houses in the UK with the contract engineers serving all of these.
The high speed GUK FA43 with 10 moulding plates was supplied and customised by GUK distributor M Partners.
It is capable of creating millions of leaflets with complex folds per week.
