Tetra Pak Wrexham achieves site maintenance standard

published on 13/02/09
Tetra Pak UK & Ireland has become the first UK packaging business to be accredited by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance under its Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) continuous improvement programme.
The accreditation marks the culmination of eight years of improvements across the Wrexham factory.
The company said there had been a 60% increase in manufacturing efficiency and a 50% reduction in waste since the improvements were completed.
TPM aims to reduce machinery breakdowns, accidents and defects by involving everyone in the manufacturing process and integrating maintenance with production. Using the skilled team of contract engineers who can do repairs this has significantly reduced costs too.
Ian Davies, factory manager at Tetra Pak Wrexham, said: 'We're thrilled to receive this recognition of our commitment to continuous improvement as a world class manufacturer.
'Every manufacturer needs to constantly look to control and improve their environmental impacts and costs, and this award demonstrates our best practice approach within the UK packaging industry.'

The UK site joins 19 other Tetra Pak factories around the world to have been recognised by the standard.
