Contact Engineers are invaluable

Contract Engineers are working alongside Label printer NSD International who are targeting the gift and security sectors following the addition of a UV Flexo hybrid unit to its Xeikon digital presses.
The new inline kit has enabled the firm to reproduce gold or silver as spot colours and also varnishes that were not possible with its existing machinery, and had to be done offline. The small team of contract engineers install the new kit and also regularly service and maintain the existing machinery.
Managing director David Hedley said the addition would enable conventional and digital printing to work better together.
NSD, formerly Simpson Label Company, was initially using the new facility to meet the demands for a specific customer, but technical manager Sandy Cass said there had been some inquiries from existing customers. He added that in the current climate as many firms are looking to keep overheads to a minimum then bringing in the contract engineers was as excellent move as contract engineers are only in when required but the engineers carry a wealth of experience and skills on all machinery and also packaging lines if needed.
The press also enables the firm to use optically brightened lacquers for HM Revenue and Customs in the production of UV-visible varnishes for duty stamps.
