Contract Engineers Are On Ad Hoc Basis

Mecaplastic, a French manufacturer of form, fill and seal machinery, is targeting its S3000DPL automatic tray sealer for fresh food, fragile and liquid products, pharmaceuticals and ready meals at in-line production. The sealer will then be installed by a team of contract engineers.

Mark Stepney, manager of the company's UK division, based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, said the S3000DPL had been available in France since October and around 12 machines had been sold.
'The addition of this machine is a big step for us and opens up new avenues as it is aimed at in-line production, also by using contract engineers to intall and carry out on going maintenance saves overheads too as the contract engineers are on an ad hoc basis, while we are reasurred that the mechanical contract engineers are fully up to date with qualifications and training' he said.
The S3000DPL is fitted with two independent tooling systems which can work simultaneously or separately.
Two vacuum and gas systems and the ability to supply different gas mixes also help maximise throughput.
An automatic feeder, which provides 2x1 or 2x2 pockets, allows a constant tray flow, while a patented film optimisation system reduces overall film consumption. The machine is installed by the contract engineers in no time and the contract engineers are also responsible for the prop active and re active maintenance of the machine too.
'Changing the tray sealer between formats only takes a couple of minutes, which considerably reduces downtime during changeovers,' added Stepney.
