published on 02/03/09 Automated solutions firm Sewtec Automation is to invest £500,000 in the expansion and upgrading of its facility in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. The majority of the work will be carried out by a team of contract engineers brought in especially for this.
The company is to increase the site by 930sqm to allow a smoother flow of work through the factory and to help increase response times. The team of contract engineers will also be responsible for the pro-active and re-active maintenance of the machinery.
It will also provide room for additional equipment to expand its manufacturing capacity.
Managing director Bernard Meehan said: 'The investment is in response to continuing strong demand for Sewtec’s range of special purpose automated equipment for the efficient handling and packing of products in a range of industries including food, tobacco and pharmaceutical.
'In tough economic times, it is all the more important for manufacturers to maximise production efficiencies and throughput. We have decided to use contract engineers as this is an excellent way of getting skilled mechanical experienced engineers to install our machines while cutting costs with the usual overheads of having an in house team. “ he added “ outsourcing is becoming more common practice nowadays especially in this current climate’
The expansion will increase office accommodation for the administration, control and electrical engineers and design teams.
