published on 06/05/09 Walkers Crisps has placed orders for more Schubert TLM-F44 machines, which will be installed this autumn by a team of contract engineers from an engineering outsource provider, following the successful application of the system to the packing of multi-bags.
The machine can deal with up to three different varieties of packs, in any type of flexible film, including metallised products. Schubert said the machine could also deal with paper bags and even unwrapped products. The machine is installed by the mechanical personell, with minimum disruption and little or no downtime.
Walkers’ director of potato crisp production, Mark Grover. “It was important to find an innovative packaging solution as we focus on reducing costs and raising production efficiencies every day.” He also said “ in the economic downturn companies are focusing more on reducing costs which is why we approached the engineering outsource provider after having had that route recommended to us several times, and outsourcing the contract engineers has been excellent, we know that we are not scrimping on skills and knowledge as several contract engineers have been in the engineering sector for years”
The mechanical engineers will also be employed for the ongoing pro active and re active maintenance of the machine.
