Contract Engineers Blowing Bubbles

published on 01/06/09
Chewing gum manufacturer The Wrigley Company brought in a team of contract engineers to install a new packaging system to significantly speed up production of its Hubba Bubba bubblegum.
The new kit is part of a major refit of the firm’s Plymouth factory, where it is investing millions of pounds to increase efficiency and boost production of bubblegum for the UK and European markets. The kit was installed by the mechanical contract engineers with no disruption to the factory and quickly and efficiently.
Four bespoke Schubert TLM-F44 machines have been installed to pack rolls of bubblegum into plastic dispensers. The new system is run around the clock on a three-shift programme and has replaced a manual packing station. The pro active and re active maintenance is also carried out by the team of contract engineers and is adapted to the needs of the company.
Simon Coburn, a Wrigley project engineer, said: “This investment is part of our upgrading of the Plymouth factory, which is a key manufacturing base for The Wrigley Company worldwide.”
Automated packaging systems are used by manufacturers in the food, cosmetics, confectionery and pharmaceutical industries.
