published on 10/07/09 A team of contract engineers have been kept busy installing new production lines when a firm in Blackburn won the contract to design and produce bottles for a new range of bakery colours and flavourings for major leading supermarket.
The clear PET bottles have been developed for the supermarket’s supplier Food Innovation and contain 13 flavours – some brightly-coloured – such as vanilla and almond and new natural blue and green colours.
The mechanical contract engineers installed the lines with minimum disruption to the factory and within the allocated time. The contract engineers who are from a local outsourcing firm, are also responsible for the pro active and re active maintenance of the lines.
According to the Blackburn company, the key technical consideration was the choice of a material that was both robust and would allow the colours of the products to be clearly visible to shoppers.
Kevin Rushton of Food Innovation said that PET’s lightweight and shatterproof qualities made it a good choice for using in the kitchen, especially where children might be baking with their parents.
The bottle’s excellent clarity ensures that each flavouring is instantly identifiable, he added.
