published on 29/07/09 A local team of mechanical contract engineers may soon be installing a new B1-format Manroland press for Potts Printers as they are looking to increase its bespoke packaging work after signing a £1.2m deal for a new B1-format Manroland press.
The Northumberland-based firm, which produces a range of packaging products alongside general commercial print, has said that the investment press will help in plans to reach increased sales targets whilw by using an outsourced engineering team reduce unnecessary overheads in the factory.
The five-colour Roland 705 will be installed in September with no anticipated disruption by the skilled team of mechanical engineers who have several years of knowledge and experience in this field and will run alongside a three-year-old six-colour Roland 700 machine.
Potts managing director Shaun Johnson said that the press would give the company greater flexibility to produce more short-run, specialist packaging work.
'We could get to the stage where one press is dedicated to commercial print and the other to packaging,' he said and added “ people everywhere are looking to do things the most cost effective way and we believe this could work, also by outsourcing the engineering side for this installation and having them also carry out the maintenance as required we are saving money there as well”
Alongside its general commercial print work, the company, which employs 115 staff, produces packaging for the DIY, cosmetics, healthcare and food industries
