published on 22/09/09 Catalent Pharma Solutions in Swindon is to invest in new blister packaging lines which are to be installed by a team of contract engineers from a local outsource provider who has been active in this line of engineering outsourcing for over 20 years. This comes following a decision by Danish pharmaceutical company ALK-Abelló to fund a new production line for tablet-based allergy products at the site.
The new production line will ramp up production of Zydis, a fast-dissolving oral tablet that can be taken without water. This line is to be installed by the mechanical engineers with minimum disruption to the factory.
US-based Catalent already produces the primary packaging for the drugs in Swindon. These are then shipped to ALK in Denmark.
The new line is not expected to go into commercial operation until 2010. The contract engineers are also able to carry out any maintenance requirements as the customer requires.
Thomas Stuart, group president of oral technologies for Catalent, said: 'We are pleased to have reached this next important step in our relationship with ALK-Abelló, which began more than four years ago.'
