published on 13/10/09 A local engineering outsource provider has supplied a team of skilled, mechanical engineers to company Meat Processor Farmer’s Boy, Bradford-part of the Morrisons group to install a new PFM flow-wrapping line allowing the packaging used for its latest range of sausages to be significantly reduced.
The inverted, bottom reel PFM scirocco flow-wrapper, eliminates the plastic trays previously required to support bunches of sausages for stretch wrapping.
The mechanical engineers carried out the installation well within the time slot allocated and were also on hand to carry out any pro active or re active maintenance as needed at the site to the other machines.
Moving to flow-wrapping has also allowed Farmer’s Boy to opt for modified atmosphere packaging, giving additional shelf life of up to six days.
The PFM scirocco is equipped with gas flushing facilities, including an in line gas mixer and analyser, and has a patented long dwell sealing system allowing the jaws to follow the motion of the metallised high barrier packaging film to give extra sealing time for hermetic, gas tight seals.
