Mechanical Engineers Install New Flow Wrapping System

published on 15/03/10
Redpacks latest unique HTS Flow wrapping system was designed for one of Britain’s major producers of Salad Products to automate twin packaging of Celery Hearts. The new flow wrapping system has been successfully installed by a group of highly skilled mechanical engineers. The aim of the new design was to reduce the number of production operatives, speed up the grading and wrapping process, reduce the time from harvesting to packing and reducing product handling.
The mechanical engineers who have recently installed the new flow wrapping system have between them over 20 year’s experience.
The mechanical contract engineers installed the new flow wrapping system with minimum disruption to the site and well within the given timescale. Their wealth of knowledge and skills has enabled them to carry out any maintenance checks as also requested.
The Celery hearts are harvested and conveyed into the rig at up to 140 pieces/minute where they are dynamically check weighed, conveyed via a Redpack Phase feeder to a collating module, then through the flow wrapping module and out onto a rotary turntable with box packing station, the entire system is integrated with the Rig feed conveyor system.
Redpack, who have many years of experience of providing machines for fresh produce for both rig and packhouse applications, were aware that the finished machine had to be capable of withstanding the harsh conditions and movement of a field harvesting rig.
As Redpack comment “In spite of the difficulties of designing machines for field rig applications we are aware of the importance for our customer to supply Supermarkets with the freshest possible product, and it can’t get fresher than being packed at the moment of harvesting and possibly being on the supermarket shelves the following day”
