published on 23/04/10 A group of highly skilled mechanical engineers are due to install a third printing press for Chesapeake for its Newcastle site. The Contract engineers have between them over 20 years experience.
The Newcastle facility specialises in printing branded cartons and will take delivery of the Speedmaster XL 105-8+LYYL in June 2010 to add to its Manroland and Komori presses.
Over the past couple of months, Chesapeake has invested in a Komori press for its Leicester plant, and a KBA press and GUK folder gluer for its Greenford site. Both have been sucessfully installed by a group of highlyt skilled contract engineers. The third printing preses is due to be installed by the same group of contract engineers with no anticipated disruption by the skilled team of mechanical engineer
The latest investment is a Heidelberg eight-unit straight press with twin coaters, which is equipped to process UV, aqueous or conventional inks.
It has been fitted with Image Control to ensure colour is adjusted throughout a run and from run to run and Inspection Control, which automatically checks for inconsistencies.
Autoplate XL provides simultaneous plate changing and logistics so there is a non-stop supply of board to the feeder and the automatic removal of finished work from delivery.
Managing director of Chesapeake's Newcastle and Bristol sites John Short said the company underwent 'rigorous production trials' of the press before selecting it.
'The XL 105 is an extremely productive press, which has been highly specified to ensure we can achieve market-leading levels of performance and innovation,' he said.
Chesapeake received a grant from development agency One North East to invest in the Heidelberg press.
