published on 22/02/12 The pharmaceutical industry is able to draw on a new resource from the first company in the UK to install a Diana X folder gluer with a Braille unit.
The investment will allow the firm to better respond to the legal requirement from the pharmaceutical sector which is to include Braille on packaging. Braille is a prerequisite, and to date the company has produced it in the die-cutting section of there production facility. The tooling costs, to produce Braille this way, are very expensive, and the company is confident that, running Braille on the Diana X will be considerably more cost effective, particularly on runs of small/medium volume.
The Braille unit is situated immediately after the alignment station, which ensures positioning is exact. The machine uses a male-female method with an etched plate punched to create the Braille emboss. The system is able to emboss on any panel and on any size of carton with multiple lines of information and can run at speeds of over 100,000 cartons an hour.
Outsourced Engineers will be installing the machine, which will be delivered in March. This will enable the company to continue with day to day engineering works, whilst the specialists concentrate on the installation. When production begins following commissioning it will run on a double-day shift, ensuring production time is maximised.
