Conveyor Guarding

A Lancashire based company who provide conveying and end of line packaging machinery to the food and drinks industries is also able to provide engineer support services. These include assessing and modifying companies existing conveying system to ensure safety standards are met.

A site in Corby in September 2016 had a worker injured with the partial amputation of his left hand following his finger coming into contact with the moving parts of a screw conveyor.

During the investigation by the H&S Executive, it was found that the conveyor didn’t have adequate guarding that would have prevented the incident. In a statement, the HSE inspector said ‘Duty holders have a responsibility to ensure all dangerous machinery has the appropriate level of guarding to enable safe operation and maintenance, including cleaning operations’.

The food and drink industry has had a number of safety failings and to ensure guarding and conveying is safe is something the team at Packserve Limited is able to do as a systems integrator. The modification of conveying when integrating new machinery includes ensuring all guarding is up to specification. As an accredited Safecontractor member safety is part and parcel of every install, including bringing breaches to sites attention and offering a solution to ensure future safety.
